Israeli forces kill 16-year-old boy in West Bank

JERUSALEM: A 16-year-old Palestinian was killed by Israeli forces in the occupied West Bank on Sunday, according to the Palestinian health ministry, which also said two younger boys were wounded in the same incident.

The ministry identified the teenager as Waleed Nidal Waleed Abu Sneineh and said the shooting took place at the Qalandia refugee camp near Ramallah. The two injured boys were both 14 years old.

In a statement, the ministry said the teenager died after being shot by Israeli forces, while the two other children suffered gunshot wounds to their lower limbs.

The Israeli military did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The killing was the second reported death of a Palestinian teenager within a week. Since the Gaza war began in October 2023, violence in the West Bank has intensified. According to an AFP count based on Palestinian health ministry figures, at least 1,087 Palestinians, including militants and civilians, have been killed in the territory by Israeli soldiers or settlers since October 2023.
