Sindh police reopen inquiry into Priya Kumari disappearance
Sindh police have launched a fresh probe into the 2021 disappearance of Priya Kumari, officials told a Minority Caucus meeting in Karachi. The meeting also reviewed policing issues affecting minorities in Kandhkot taluka.

KARACHI: Sindh police have begun a fresh investigation into the 2021 disappearance of Priya Kumari, a Hindu girl who was about nine years old when she went missing, as calls for her recovery have intensified.
The development came to light on Thursday during a meeting of the Minority Caucus, a bipartisan legislative forum set up to protect the constitutional rights of non-Muslim communities. The session was chaired by Senator Danesh Kumar at the Sindh chief secretary’s office and covered several issues concerning religious minorities in the province.
During the meeting, senior police officials gave an updated briefing on the status of the inquiry into Priya Kumari’s alleged kidnapping. According to the police briefing, a new probe has been launched and efforts are underway to secure her early and safe recovery.
Priya Kumari disappeared in August 2021 in Sangrar town near Sukkur while she was distributing free cold drinks at a sabeel on Ashura day. The meeting also reviewed law and order and crime-control operations in Ghouskot village of Kandhkot taluka, with discussion focused on their impact on minority communities as well as the police response and conduct there.
