GUJRAT: A four-year-old girl is in critical condition after she was allegedly set on fire by her mother and siblings in Gujranwala’s Aroop locality on Thursday in what police described as an attempt to remove suspected black magic and jinn possession.

The child, identified as Mirha, was taken to the Gujranwala District Headquarters Hospital with severe burn injuries. According to the initial investigation, she was burned during an exorcism after family members believed she was under the influence of black magic and a jinn.

A Gujranwala Police spokesperson said the girl’s mother, Lubna, along with her daughter Muzamil Bibi and sons Muneeb and Haseeb, had been arrested in connection with the incident. The spokesperson said the suspects put up resistance during the arrests.

Police said City Police Officer Dr Ghias Gulhad had assigned an investigation team under the Civil Lines SP to probe the case. The spokesperson said a case had yet to be registered.
