LAHORE: Two suspected robbers were killed and three others escaped during an alleged encounter with the Crime Control Department near Rana Town, according to police.
Police said the suspects were carrying out a robbery when a CCD team reached the spot. Officers said the men opened fire after seeing the police party, leading to retaliatory firing in which two of them were killed at the scene.
The three remaining suspects fled during the exchange, police said, adding that a search operation had been launched to trace and arrest them.
Police officials identified the dead men as Umar Maqbool and Faisal. They said both had been involved in multiple criminal cases and were also allegedly connected to a robbery reported a day earlier in which a citizen was killed.
