Pakistan, Uzbekistan discuss broader cooperation in trade, education and connectivity

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Uzbekistan have renewed efforts to deepen bilateral cooperation, with both sides reviewing ways to advance links in regional connectivity, economic engagement and cultural exchange during a meeting in Islamabad on Tuesday.

The discussion took place when Uzbekistan’s Ambassador to Pakistan Alisher Tukhtaev met Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Minister Ahsan Iqbal. According to the reported details, the two sides reaffirmed their commitment to stronger bilateral ties and a shared agenda centred on practical steps and measurable outcomes.

The meeting covered possible cooperation in education, trade, the economy, transport and communications, as well as agriculture and livestock development. They also examined options for expanding academic collaboration through joint research, student and faculty exchanges, and specialised training and capacity-building programmes.

They further discussed the possibility of jointly accrediting degree programmes to improve quality assurance and strengthen international recognition of academic qualifications. On educational links, Iqbal stressed the value of promoting language learning and academic exchanges, and said Uzbekistan could be an important destination for Pakistani scholars seeking to learn the Russian language.
