Sabotage bid targeting power towers foiled in Nasirabad

DERA MURAD JAMALI: Security forces, police and the Counter Terrorism Department said they prevented a major sabotage attempt in Nasirabad on Saturday after defusing more than 15 kilogrammes of explosives planted beneath high-voltage electricity transmission towers.

According to police, the device had been placed near 220-kilovolt transmission towers that carry electricity from the Uch Power Plant to areas of Sindh and Punjab. The explosives were found on Chhatter Road within the limits of Notal police station.

Police officials said the attackers had planned to blow up the transmission towers. They said such an attack could have led to a major disruption in electricity supply to parts of Sindh and Punjab served by the line.

The explosives were recovered and defused during the joint action by security forces, police and the Counter Terrorism Department, according to the officials.
