Sharjeel Inam Memon calls Sindh budget 'people-friendly, balanced'

KARACHI: Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has described the provincial budget for fiscal year 2026-27 as people-friendly, balanced and aligned with the government’s development priorities.

In a statement, Memon said the Pakistan Peoples Party-led Sindh government had consistently kept public welfare at the centre of its agenda, along with employment, education, healthcare, infrastructure and economic growth. He said the new budget would provide a solid basis for the province’s future, economic stability and public prosperity.

Referring to the budget’s tax structure and labour-related measures, the minister said it had been presented without new taxes and carried what he called a message of relief, development and prosperity for the people of Sindh. He also welcomed the increase in the minimum wage from Rs40,000 to Rs43,000, describing it as an important measure for the welfare of workers.

Memon said the Sindh government’s development approach went beyond announcements and was supported by practical action. As an example, he pointed to development spending of more than Rs900 billion during the last fiscal year, calling it a record investment.

Focus on housing, education and health

The senior minister said the Sindh People’s Housing Program was a distinctive welfare initiative in Pakistan’s history and added that it was enabling millions of families to receive homes of their own.

He also said education and healthcare remained among the government’s foremost priorities, with significant allocations set aside for both sectors in the new budget. According to Memon, the spending plan places particular focus on school construction, the hiring of teachers, the provision of modern medical facilities and the expansion of healthcare institutions.

The statement presented the budget as part of the provincial government’s broader welfare and development agenda, with Memon saying the allocations reflected continued emphasis on social sectors and long-term public benefit.
