Haroon Akhtar, Alibaba discuss digital support for SMEs
Haroon Akhtar Khan met an Alibaba.com delegation in Islamabad to discuss support for Pakistan’s digital economy and SME exports. The talks covered DigiSME Pakistan, AI-based tools and greater use of e-commerce platforms.

ISLAMABAD: Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production Haroon Akhtar Khan met a delegation from Alibaba.com to discuss cooperation on Pakistan’s digital economy, industrial growth and the export prospects of small and medium enterprises.
The meeting focused on the planned implementation of the DigiSME Pakistan initiative with the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority, along with broader discussions on industrial development and ways to widen Pakistan’s online export presence in international markets.
During the talks, the Alibaba delegation presented artificial intelligence-based solutions for Pakistani SMEs. The proposals were aimed at improving business efficiency and helping smaller firms reach overseas market opportunities more effectively.
Haroon Akhtar Khan said the memoranda of understanding recently signed with Alibaba Group were important developments for the country’s economic progress. He said Alibaba’s services would help Pakistani SMEs connect with global markets through digital trade, supporting export growth and creating fresh economic opportunities. He also directed Smeda to work closely with Alibaba.com so that micro, small and medium enterprises could make effective use of digital platforms and benefit from opportunities in global e-commerce.
