CHACHRO: Fifteen suspected Afghan nationals were taken into custody during a joint operation by intelligence and law enforcement agencies in Chachro tehsil of Tharparkar district on Sunday, according to police sources.
Officials said the action focused on Afghan families living near Chachro police station. During the operation, authorities checked residency records and identity papers of several individuals before detaining 15 people.
The detainees were later moved to Karachi for further investigation and legal proceedings, officials said. No formal statement had been issued by law enforcement agencies regarding the operation, while the inquiry was continuing.
Documents and property dealings under review
Police sources said investigators were examining alleged irregularities in identity documents, including the use of incorrect or fake addresses on national identity cards. They added that transactions related to government land and residential property were also being reviewed as part of a wider legal examination.
Local residents said many of those detained had been living in the area for nearly two decades and were mainly involved in the furniture trade. Police sources also said authorities were looking into allegations of possible involvement in other unlawful activities, though there was no official confirmation on that aspect.
Calls for wider verification
Some residents urged authorities to carry out similar verification drives in other parts of Tharparkar, particularly Mithi, to determine the legal status and documentation of foreign nationals residing in the district.
The operation comes amid ongoing scrutiny of residency and identification records in the area, with officials continuing their investigation into the detained individuals and related documentation.
