QUETTA: Security forces have apprehended 65 Afghan nationals, including women and children, for illegally entering Pakistan, officials said on Saturday.

According to officials, the arrests were made during a series of raids conducted at four separate locations in the Nokundi area of Chagai district. The operations were carried out based on intelligence reports regarding the presence of illegal immigrants in the region.

A senior security official stated, “Security forces cordoned off the area and rounded up 65 illegal Afghan nationals,” specifying that the group comprised 33 men, 14 women, and 18 children. The official further noted that the detainees had crossed into Pakistan without legal documentation after crossing the border.

The security official added that the forces also destroyed and set fire to four hideouts used by the group. “They had crossed into Pakistan and were waiting to enter Iran and Turkiye before travelling onwards to European countries,” the official claimed.

Following their arrest, the Afghan nationals were handed over to the relevant authorities for further interrogation and necessary legal action.

The operation highlights ongoing efforts by Pakistani security agencies to curb illegal border crossings and human trafficking, particularly in border districts such as Chagai, which is known for being a transit point for migrants seeking to travel onwards to other countries.

The incident comes amid heightened scrutiny of undocumented migration in the region, with authorities continuing to monitor and respond to intelligence regarding illegal crossings.
