Mongolia reaffirms One-China Policy, seeks deeper strategic cooperation with China

ULAN BATOR: Mongolian President Ukhnaa Khurelsukh on Saturday reaffirmed his country’s commitment to the One-China principle and pledged to further strengthen bilateral cooperation with China during a meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Ulan Bator.

According to Chinese official sources, President Khurelsukh described Mongolia-China relations as a model of interstate cooperation in the region, highlighting the mutual respect both countries have maintained for each other’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity.

He noted that bilateral ties had continued to expand across multiple sectors and expressed confidence that trade between the two neighboring countries would reach $20 billion this year.

The Mongolian president described China as a trusted neighbor and strategic partner, emphasizing that the development of friendly relations with Beijing remains a top priority of Mongolia’s foreign policy.

Reaffirming Mongolia’s support for the One-China policy, Khurelsukh said Taiwan was an inalienable part of China’s territory and stressed that Mongolia opposed all forms of “Taiwan independence” activities. He also reiterated that issues related to Hong Kong, Xinjiang and Xizang (Tibet) were China’s internal affairs.

“Mongolia will not do anything that harms China’s interests, regardless of its relations with other countries,” he said, adding that his country was willing to strengthen coordination and cooperation with China on regional and international affairs.

During the meeting, Wang Yi said China attaches great importance to its relations with Mongolia and remains committed to being a reliable neighbor, trustworthy friend and development partner.

He reaffirmed China’s respect for Mongolia’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as its chosen development path.

The Chinese foreign minister expressed Beijing’s readiness to deepen cooperation with Mongolia by aligning development strategies, expanding connectivity projects and strengthening collaboration in energy, mineral resources, trade and investment.

Wang also called for exploring new areas of cooperation, including critical minerals, green development and the digital economy, to create fresh momentum for bilateral relations.

The meeting took place during Wang Yi’s three-day visit to Mongolia, during which he is also scheduled to hold talks with Mongolian Prime Minister Nyam-Osor Uchral and Foreign Minister Batmunkh Battsetseg.

The visit reflects the growing strategic partnership between China and Mongolia and both sides’ commitment to expanding economic cooperation and regional coordination.
