Pims denies rumours of Imran Khan transfer for eye check-up

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) on Thursday night denied reports circulating on electronic and social media that former prime minister Imran Khan was being brought from Adiala Jail to the hospital for an eye examination.

The rumours spread after security arrangements were stepped up around the hospital, prompting speculation that the jailed Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) founder was due to arrive there. Hospital management, however, said no such transfer had taken place.

Pims spokesperson Dr Aneeza Jalil urged caution in reporting the matter and said the hospital only released verified information. She said:

"Hospital shares official and authentic information and media should not spread rumours without confirmation,"

Despite the denial, hospital sources said the sudden increase in security led staff to believe Imran Khan’s arrival was expected. Those sources said a transfer might have been planned but could have later been postponed, diverted to another venue, or delayed.
