KDA staff protest appointments of officers from outside departments

KARACHI: Officers and employees of the Karachi Development Authority (KDA) staged a protest at the Civic Centre against the appointment of what they described as outsider officers from unrelated departments.

The demonstration was joined by employees’ unions, including the Collective Bargaining Agent (CBA), as well as all factions of the Officers’ Association. Protesters raised slogans against the postings and put up black banners on the premises criticising the Sindh local government department.

According to the protesting employees, resentment has spread within the authority over the transfer and posting of personnel from SCUG Services, trainee cadres and different town councils. They said KDA’s Schedule of Establishment does not provide sanctioned posts for SCUG Services or council employees, yet such officers are being brought into the organisation on deputation.

The employees also alleged that the appointments were being made in violation of court orders. More than a dozen officers from departments unrelated to KDA had been posted, prompting union representatives and labour groups to organise the protest and demand their removal.
