NEW DELHI: India on Thursday called on the United States to end attacks on commercial shipping after three Indian sailors were killed in one of three strikes this week on vessels with Indian crews.
Foreign ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said New Delhi had raised strong concerns with Washington over the incidents. He told reporters that the US Navy had attacked three ships carrying Indian crew members this week, including a vessel struck on Thursday.
Jaiswal said the foreign ministry had summoned the US chargé d’affaires in New Delhi on Wednesday to convey its deepest concerns after a strike on the tanker Settebello off Oman, in which three Indian sailors died. He also appealed for de-escalation in the wider region.
