Wife, former spouse implicated in man’s murder

KARACHI: Police have registered two separate murder cases in Karachi, including one linked to the death of a 30-year-old man in Orangi Town and another involving an 18-year-old woman whose family has accused her husband of sustained abuse.

Man found hanging in Orangi Town

In the first case, police in Orangi Town booked the wife of a 30-year-old man, her former husband and unidentified accomplices after the man was found hanging in suspicious circumstances inside his home near Arshi Mosque in Sector 10.

The deceased, identified as Hamza, son of Zahooruddin, was initially believed to have died by suicide. However, his family alleged that the scene had been arranged to look that way and that he had been murdered.

According to police, the case was registered at Mominabad police station on the complaint of the victim’s father. In the FIR, he named Hamza’s wife, Dua Rustam, described as a lady police constable and mother of three, along with her former husband Fahad and other unidentified persons.

The complainant told police that he received a call from his daughter informing him that Hamza was in trouble. When relatives reached the house, they found him hanging from the ceiling. The family alleged that his hands were tied, a cloth had been stuffed in his mouth, and minor marks of injury were visible on his body.

Hamza’s father further alleged in the FIR that his son’s wife, her former husband and others were involved in the killing and had tried to pass it off as suicide. He also stated that Fahad had come to the house a few days earlier and had a dispute with the deceased.

Teenage bride’s husband booked in Surjani Town

In a separate case, police registered a murder case at Surjani Town police station after the death of an 18-year-old woman whose family said she had faced repeated violence from her husband.

The FIR was lodged on the complaint of the victim’s mother. According to the complaint, Misbah married Shahryar Butt on March 19 in what the family had initially considered a love marriage. Her mother, Shehnaz, later told police that the marriage soon became abusive and that her daughter was allegedly subjected to regular physical violence and harassment.

The complainant also alleged that the suspect repeatedly demanded a new motorcycle and other dowry items from the family and frequently threatened them.

The victim’s family has appealed to senior police officers for protection, saying the suspect has continued to issue death threats to relatives even after the case was registered.
