Man arrested over alleged killing of wife in Karachi

KARACHI: Police have arrested a man accused in the alleged assault and death of his 18-year-old wife in Karachi’s Sarjani Town area, officials said.

According to Sarjani Town investigation police, the suspect, Shahryar Butt, was nominated in a case registered after the death of Misbah, who died at her home in Saif-ul-Mari Goth on the night of June 9. Police said she had allegedly suffered injuries two days earlier, on June 7, and that the case was lodged under homicide provisions on the complaint of her mother, who held her son-in-law responsible.

SSP Investigation West Dania Shah and Sarjani Town investigation in-charge Riyaz Ahmed said the suspect was traced and taken into custody with the help of latest technology. Police said the man is accused of subjecting his wife to physical abuse.

Dania Shah said authorities have decided to conduct a post-mortem examination to establish the exact cause of death. Police will seek the court’s permission for exhumation because the family had initially refused a post-mortem after Misbah’s death, according to officials.
