Lahore government schools fall short of admission target

Government schools in Lahore have failed to achieve their student admission target, prompting education authorities to step up efforts to increase enrolment before the start of the new academic session.

According to the District Education Authority (DEA), government schools in the city were assigned a target of enrolling 393,000 students by March 5. However, admissions have so far reached around 390,000, leaving the campaign nearly 3,000 students short of its goal.

The overall enrolment target for Lahore's government schools for the 2026 academic year has been set at 430,000 students.

To bridge the gap, education authorities have directed heads of government schools to intensify the ongoing admission campaign and ensure each institution enrols at least 10 additional students in the coming weeks.

Schools have also been instructed to launch door-to-door admission drives to identify out-of-school children and encourage their enrolment in nearby government institutions.

Education officials warned that school administrations would be held accountable for meeting their assigned admission targets, adding that failure to improve enrolment could lead to administrative action.
