Lahore Police and religious scholars met to finalize a foolproof Muharram security plan, stressing interfaith harmony, strict compliance on routes and timings, and strengthened screening to ensure peaceful processions and majalis.

LAHORE: Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Lahore Bilal Siddique Kamyana on Wednesday said that comprehensive and foolproof security arrangements would be put in place to ensure the safety of participants attending Muharramul Haram majalis and mourning processions across the provincial capital.
He was chairing a meeting of the District Peace Committee (DPC) held at Police Lines Qila Gujjar Singh, which was attended by prominent religious scholars and members of the Central Peace Committee, including Agha Hussain Qazalbash, Maulana Muhammad Ali Naqshbandi, Khawaja Meesam Abbas, Mufti Imran Sajjad Hanafi, Maulana Rai Zafar Ali and Maulana Shakeelur Rehman.
The meeting reviewed arrangements for maintaining peace and reviewed overall security planning for Muharramul Haram. Participants exchanged views on ensuring interfaith harmony, coordinated security measures and effective implementation of agreed protocols during religious gatherings.
Addressing the meeting, CCPO Kamyana said that maintaining law and order and promoting religious harmony were collective responsibilities of all stakeholders. He expressed confidence that Muharram would remain peaceful through close coordination among all schools of thought, the district administration and relevant line departments.

He stressed that strict compliance with notified timings and designated routes for majalis and mourning processions would be ensured. He directed divisional Superintendents of Police (SPs) to remain in close liaison with peace committee members and procession organizers.
The CCPO added that security screening of majalis and processions would be further strengthened with the cooperation of organizers and volunteers to ensure foolproof arrangements and prevent any untoward incident.
Special prayers were offered at the conclusion of the meeting for the country’s security, stability and peaceful observance of Muharramul Haram.
DIG Operations Faisal Kamran, SSP Operations Tauqeer Muhammad Naeem, SP Security Dr Muhammad Umar, and divisional SPs also attended the meeting.
Performance of Model Town and Cantt Divisions Reviewed
Meanwhile, CCPO Bilal Siddique Kamyana also chaired a separate performance review meeting of Model Town and Cantt divisions, where he conducted a detailed assessment of the Muharram security plan, law and order situation, crime prevention measures and public service delivery.
He directed police officers to ensure strict implementation of all standard operating procedures (SOPs) issued by the Punjab government during Muharram-ul-Haram, emphasizing that no lapse in security would be tolerated.
The CCPO said crimes against women and children remained a “red line” for Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, warning that negligence or delay in such cases would invite strict departmental action. He ordered that cases involving women and children be registered on priority and investigated transparently on merit.
Reaffirming Lahore Police’s zero-tolerance policy, he directed an intensified crackdown on gambling dens and online gambling networks without discrimination. He also ordered strict legal action against those involved in violations of the Kite Flying Act.
DIG (Admin) Imran Kishwar, DIG (Investigation) Zeeshan Raza, DIG (Operations) Faisal Kamran, SSP (Investigation) Muhammad Naveed, SSP (Operations) Tauqeer Muhammad Naeem, along with SPs, ASPs, Circle Officers, SHOs and investigation in-charges of Model Town and Cantt divisions attended the meeting.
