- Commissioner, CCPO chair peace committee members, assure foolproof security during the holy month
LAHORE: A meeting of the District Peace Committee was held at Police Lines Qila Gujjar Singh under the chair of Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Lahore Bilal Siddique Kamyana and Commissioner Zaid Bin Maqsood to review security and administrative preparations for Muharramul Haram.
The meeting was attended by high officers, including Deputy Commissioner Lahore Syed Musa Raza, CTO Athar Waheed, DIG (Operations) Muhammad Faisal Kamran, SSP (Operations) Tassawur Iqbal, SP (Dolphin Squad), SP (Headquarters), divisional SPs (Operations) and others.
Members of the peace committee, including Agha Shah Hussain Qazilbash, Maulana Muhammad Ali Naqshbandi, Mufti Imranul Hassan, Mufti Imran Hanafi, Syed Ali Mehdi, Hafiz Muhammad Zubair, Maulana Mahmoodul Hassan, and Khurram Naqvi were present.
The session was also attended by representatives of the district administration, license holders, and organizers of processions and gatherings.
Key matters discussed included maintaining law and order during Muharram, ensuring overall security, and addressing any anticipated challenges.
CCPO and Commissioner assured full cooperation in resolving issues such as road patchwork, removal of encroachments, installation of streetlights, prevention of electric current in poles during monsoon, and drainage problems. He directed finalization of timings for religious gatherings, traffic management, and parking plans at the earliest.
The meeting also reviewed security arrangements, including deployment of security staff at Imambargahs and installation of walkthrough gates, metal detectors, and CCTV cameras.
The CCPO directed the divisional SPs to maintain close coordination with peace committee members and procession organizers to ensure peace at the grassroots. With the collective cooperation of religious scholars, community leaders, the district administration, and law enforcement agencies, Muharram would be observed peacefully, he maintained.
The Lahore police chief reaffirmed the commitment to provide foolproof security to Majalis, processions, and participants. Highlighting peace and religious harmony as a shared responsibility, he emphasized that strict adherence to designated routes and scheduled timings will be enforced.
Mr Kamyana directed that each gathering and procession must follow the designated entry and exit points with proper security, adding that effective screening of participants will also be ensured with the cooperation of organizers and volunteers from concerned Imambargahs.
Commissioner Zaid Bin Maqsood appreciated the efforts of the District Peace Committee members and religious scholars for maintaining harmony and assured full support from the district administration for timely resolution of issues. He emphasized that the district administration and police will work in close coordination to ensure peaceful observance of Muharram.
