RAWALPINDI: A soldier embraced martyrdom while 14 terrorists were killed during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) conducted by security forces in Balochistan’s Basima district, the military’s media wing said on Tuesday.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), security forces launched the operation on June 8 after receiving intelligence reports about the presence of terrorists belonging to “Fitna al Hindustan” in the Naal area of Basima district.

The military said the terrorists, allegedly backed by India, were planning attacks on a nearby police station and banking facilities in the area.

Acting swiftly on the intelligence, security forces launched an operation to foil the planned attacks and engaged the militants before they could execute their designs.

“During the operation, the movement of terrorists was effectively monitored and they were engaged decisively by security forces,” the ISPR said.

Following an intense exchange of fire, 14 terrorists were killed, while several others sustained injuries. Security forces also destroyed four vehicles and a number of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) during the operation.

However, Lance Havildar Muhammad Abbas embraced martyrdom while fighting bravely against the terrorists and making the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

The ISPR paid tribute to the fallen soldier, stating that his sacrifice reflected the resolve and commitment of Pakistan’s security forces in the fight against terrorism.

The military said sanitisation operations were continuing in the area to eliminate any remaining militants and ensure the complete clearance of the region.

It reiterated that the ongoing counterterrorism campaign under the Azm-i-Istehkam strategy, approved by the Federal Apex Committee on the National Action Plan, would continue with full determination to eliminate terrorism and safeguard national security.

The latest operation comes amid intensified counterterrorism efforts across Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Earlier this month, security forces killed six terrorists in an intelligence-based operation in Panjgur district, while 17 militants were eliminated during separate operations in Mastung, Nushki, Khuzdar and Kech districts following a suicide attack in Quetta.

Officials said security forces remain committed to preventing terrorist groups from destabilising the country and will continue operations against militants wherever necessary.
