LAHORE: An anti-corruption court has called for arguments on a plea by co-accused Mukhtar Ranjha, who is seeking acquittal in a case linked to alleged illegal recruitments in the Punjab Assembly involving former Punjab chief minister Chaudhry Parvez Elahi and others.
The hearing was conducted by Anti-Corruption Court Judge Javed Iqbal Warraich. During the proceedings, counsel for Parvez Elahi and former principal secretary Muhammad Khan Bhatti filed separate applications requesting exemption from personal appearance for one day.
The lawyers told the court that both accused were unwell and submitted medical documents in support of the requests. The court was further informed that doctors had advised them to rest, while Bhatti was also said to be suffering from back pain.
After examining the applications, the court allowed the one-day exemptions for Parvez Elahi and Muhammad Khan Bhatti. The matter was then adjourned until June 17, with the court directing that arguments on Mukhtar Ranjha’s acquittal application be presented at the next hearing.
