LAHORE: The Anti-Corruption Court, Lahore, on Wednesday granted former Punjab chief minister Chaudhry Parvez Elahi exemption from personal appearance for a day in the illegal appointment case against him.
Judge Javed Iqbal Warraich heard the case, which pertains to alleged illegal recruitments made in the Punjab Assembly during Elahi’s tenure as chief minister. Government lawyer Tanveer Chaudhry Advocate represented the prosecution during the proceedings.
Elahi’s counsel informed the court that his client was unwell and unable to appear, requesting a one-day exemption from attendance. The court accepted the plea and adjourned the hearing.
Meanwhile, co-accused Ijaz, Zohaib, and Haider Shafqat submitted acquittal applications. The court issued notices to the Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) and directed the prosecution to present arguments on the next date of hearing.
Similarly, in response to a separate acquittal plea filed by co-accused Mukhtar Ranjha, the court also sought arguments from both sides.
The court adjourned further proceedings in the case until October 8.
