ISLAMABAD: A woman, her infant son and her sister-in-law were killed after the roof of an old house collapsed during construction work in Chak 381-GB Bara Olakh, according to a Rescue 1122 spokesperson.

The spokesperson said the family was building a room on the roof of the house when the structure suddenly gave way. Initial findings showed that construction of a new room was under way on top of the old building when a wall collapsed, triggering the failure of the roof structure.

The roof then fell into the room below, burying three members of the family under the debris. The deceased were identified as one-year-old Ali Hassan, 22-year-old Saadia Bibi and 22-year-old Rehana, who was the child’s paternal aunt. Rescue teams reached the site after receiving an emergency call and recovered the bodies from the rubble.

Rescue personnel secured the area and assessed the damaged structure, while police also arrived to monitor the situation and collect information. Officials said preliminary findings pointed to structural failure in the old building during the construction work, while a detailed investigation was under way to determine the exact cause.
