CM Maryam orders strict Eid security plan across Punjab amid heightened vigilance

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Sunday directed authorities to ensure foolproof security arrangements during Chand Raat and Eidul Azha across the province, with strict implementation of all security SOPs.
Chairing a meeting on Eid security and administrative arrangements, the chief minister ordered the installation of metal detectors and walk-through gates at all Eid congregations. She also directed assistant commissioners to engage with religious scholars and brief them on the Punjab government’s security and cleanliness measures for Eidul Azha.
The chief minister ordered extraordinary security arrangements at sensitive locations and directed enhanced patrolling in markets on Chand Raat, along with deployment of women police personnel to ensure public safety.
She further instructed officials to ensure real-time monitoring through the Safe City system during security operations and ordered strict enforcement of the ban on camps established by proscribed organisations for the collection of sacrificial hides.
CM Maryam Nawaz directed district police officers to personally visit areas to ensure implementation of the ban on hide-collection camps run by banned outfits, and ordered strict action against the dissemination of hate material on social media and other platforms.
She also instructed authorities to take firm action against one-wheeling and hooliganism by motorcyclists during Eid holidays.
During the briefing, Home Secretary Punjab Ahmad Javed Qazi informed the meeting that Eid prayers would be offered at 38,507 locations across the province.
The meeting was further told that Section 144 had been imposed to ban the roasting of siri paye at public places, while action would also be taken against those disposing of animal waste in drains and public areas.
The chief minister also directed strict enforcement of the ban on aerial firing and display of weapons during Eidul Azha.
CM expresses grief over Quetta blast
Separately, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz expressed deep sorrow over the loss of precious human lives in a bomb blast in Quetta.
She extended condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the early recovery of the injured.
CM stresses protection of Markhor for biodiversity
In another message, CM Maryam Nawaz said the primary objective of observing the International Day of Pakistan’s national animal, the Markhor, was to protect the species and its natural habitat from extinction.
She said climate change and environmental degradation posed serious threats to the survival of the Markhor, which symbolises Pakistan’s rich natural heritage.
The chief minister said the Markhor represented the collective commitment to preserving biodiversity and maintaining ecological balance, adding that coordinated efforts were needed to ensure its protection.
She further noted that the Markhor was a valuable species that also plays an important role in supporting local economies.
