LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has directed authorities to ensure foolproof security arrangements at bus terminals, commercial centres and markets across the province during Chand Raat and the Eid holidays.
While presiding over a meeting to review the security measures in place, the chief minister ordered the deployment of additional security personnel in bazaars on Chand Raat. She also instructed that women police squads be deployed on patrol to prevent incidents of harassment, emphasising that the protection of women and children at public places must be ensured at all costs.
Drone cameras, night-vision devices for surveillance
The chief minister further directed the use of drone cameras and night-vision devices for surveillance in markets and commercial areas. She also ordered strict monitoring to curb one-wheeling on roads during Chand Raat.
Maryam Nawaz instructed the relevant authorities to enhance security and increase patrolling around ATMs and banks during the festive period. Police and transport officials were directed to maintain continuous monitoring at wagon stands and bus terminals throughout the Eid days.
Fare display and transport monitoring
The chief minister also emphasised that fare lists must be prominently displayed on the windscreens of buses, ensuring transparency for commuters travelling during the holiday season. The directives reflect an effort to maintain public order and safety as large numbers of people are expected to visit markets and travel across the province during Chand Raat and Eid.
The security review meeting covered a wide range of measures aimed at addressing potential risks during the busy festive period, from street crime near financial institutions to harassment at crowded public spaces and traffic safety on roads.
