Peshawar DC suspends three officials over cattle market lapses
Peshawar Deputy Commissioner Sanaullah Khan has suspended three Livestock Department officials over shortcomings at the GT Road cattle market. He also ordered a departmental inquiry after inspecting cleanliness, security and water supply arrangements.

PESHAWAR: Deputy Commissioner Peshawar Sanaullah Khan on Wednesday suspended three officials of the Livestock Department after expressing dissatisfaction over arrangements at the Eidul Azha cattle market set up on GT Road, according to officials.
The deputy commissioner also ordered a departmental inquiry against the suspended officials over negligence during his visit to the market, where he reviewed facilities and overall management ahead of Eidul Azha.
Inspection of market arrangements
During the visit, Sanaullah Khan personally examined the arrangements made for the cattle market and checked whether basic public facilities had been provided at the site. His inspection covered cleanliness, security measures, the availability of drinking water and other amenities for visitors and traders.
The action was taken after the deputy commissioner observed what was described as inadequate facilities at the market. He expressed strong displeasure over the shortcomings and moved immediately against three Livestock Department officials, while also directing that departmental proceedings be initiated against them.
Officials accompany deputy commissioner
Several administrative and departmental officials accompanied the deputy commissioner during the inspection. Those present included Assistant Commissioner (Sadar) Husaina Khan, the TMO Chamkani, officials from the Livestock Department, personnel from TMA Chamkani and representatives of other relevant departments.
The visit was aimed at assessing on-ground arrangements at the cattle market established on GT Road for Eidul Azha, a period during which such markets typically draw large numbers of buyers and sellers. The deputy commissioner’s review focused on whether the administration and concerned departments had ensured the necessary facilities for the public.
Following the inspection, the immediate suspension of the three officials and the order for a departmental inquiry signalled administrative action over the deficiencies identified at the site. The reported shortcomings related specifically to the provision and management of facilities at the cattle market.
No direct statement from the deputy commissioner was included in the report, but the inspection and subsequent action underscored the district administration’s concern over the condition of arrangements at the market on GT Road.
The presence of officials from the civil administration, municipal authorities and the Livestock Department during the visit indicated that multiple departments were involved in overseeing the market’s operations and public service arrangements.
