RAWALPINDI: The Rawalpindi district administration has notified eight major cattle markets across the district ahead of Eidul Azha, according to a notification issued by Deputy Commissioner Hassan Waqar Cheema.
The notification states that three cattle markets will operate within Rawalpindi city limits. The main central market for sacrificial animals will be set up at Bhatta Chowk at the Rawalpindi-Islamabad junction. The chief officer of the Rawalpindi Cantonment Board has been assigned to oversee that market.
Two other markets in Rawalpindi will be established at UC Ranyal on Chakri Road and on GT Road in Rawat. According to the notification, the chief officer of the district council will serve as the in-charge of both of these sites.
Outside the city, a fourth cattle market will be set up in Gujar Khan on Gulyana Road. The market will function under the supervision of the chief officer of the municipal committee.
Taxila will have two cattle markets, one on GT Road and another near the Sunday Bazaar, the notification said. In Kallar Syedan, another market will be established at the underpass bypass, while Kahuta tehsil will have a cattle market at Sakhi Sabzwari.
The notification further says that chief officers will act as in-charges of all the notified cattle markets, while the relevant assistant commissioners will supervise arrangements at the sites.
Administrative arrangements
The move comes as district authorities prepare for Eidul Azha-related livestock trading activity across Rawalpindi. The notification lays out the locations of the approved markets and identifies the officials responsible for management and oversight.
Under the arrangement, administrative responsibility has been distributed among the Rawalpindi Cantonment Board, the district council, municipal authorities and local field administration, depending on the location of each market.
The central market at Bhatta Chowk is expected to serve as the main livestock trading point for sacrificial animals in the district, while the remaining seven markets have been designated for different tehsils and localities to facilitate trading activity ahead of the religious festival.
The notified sites include markets in Rawalpindi city, Gujar Khan, Taxila, Kallar Syedan and Kahuta, covering multiple parts of the district. Assistant commissioners concerned will supervise the arrangements, while chief officers will remain in charge of operations at the markets, according to the notification issued by the deputy commissioner.
