Karachi approves 21 cattle markets ahead of Eid livestock trade

KARACHI: Authorities have formally approved 21 cattle markets across Karachi ahead of the annual rise in livestock trading before Eid, according to a notification cited in the report.

The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) had requested permission for 11 locations, but approval was granted for five sites to be run under its direct management. In addition to those locations, several town municipal corporations (TMCs) and other institutions have also been allowed to establish markets, taking the total number of approved sites in the city to 21.

Markets approved across districts

In District West, approved sites include the long-established Northern Bypass cattle market at Taiser Town, Aftab Goth in Sector 11-E of Orangi Town, and the 2.5 Number Ground in UC-9 Mominabad. These markets will be managed by the relevant local authorities.

District Korangi will have five cattle markets. These include K Area Ground under KMC, Korangi Coast Guard’s Madina Colony, and Eidgah Ground in Korangi No 5 under Landhi Town.

In District Malir, three markets have been cleared for operation. These are the traditional Asu Goth market under TMC Malir, Cattle Mandi Colony under TMC Ibrahim Hyderi, and Deh Konkar under TMC Gadap.

District Central will have four approved markets, including Sunday Car Bazaar in North Karachi, Nazimabad No 2 near Ghalib Library, and Sector 11-I New Karachi. These sites will be overseen by the respective municipal bodies.

Five markets have been approved in District East. The locations include Dost Muhammad Khaskheli Goth, Azimabad Society near Sohrab Goth, Block 5 Gulistan-e-Johar, a site behind Safari Park, and another at Safoora Chowrangi.

In District Keamari, two cattle markets will be set up at Yousuf Goth Bus Terminal under TMC Baldia and Bakra Piri Lyari under KMC.

District South will have one cattle market near Kala Pul, which will be organised under the supervision of the Pakistan Navy.

Regulated livestock trading

The approval of all 21 sites clears the way for livestock trading to take place at designated locations across Karachi during the pre-Eid period. The notification confirms that the markets have been formally authorised, setting up a regulated framework for cattle trade in different parts of the city.

The approved arrangement covers markets under KMC, various TMCs and other institutions, reflecting a citywide administrative plan for handling the seasonal increase in cattle trading activity.

With the notification now in place, the designated sites across West, Korangi, Malir, Central, East, Keamari and South districts are set to host livestock markets under the supervision of the respective authorities named for each location.
