Eyman Fatima powers Pakistan to T20I series win over Zimbabwe

KARACHI: Eyman Fatima struck an unbeaten 79 to steer Pakistan to a 67-run win over Zimbabwe in the second T20 International at the National Bank Stadium on Thursday night, sealing the three-match series with one match still to play.

After being sent in to bat, Pakistan overcame an unsteady start to finish on 170-4 in their 20 overs. The home side lost Gull Feroza for nine and then Ayesha Zafar, who was run out for four, slipping to 35-2 in the seventh over.

Muneeba Ali then helped settle the innings with 36 from 33 balls, hitting four boundaries before she became the fourth batter out in the 14th over. By that stage, however, Eyman had taken charge of the scoring.

The right-hander produced a forceful knock of 79 not out from 43 deliveries, an innings that included 10 fours and four sixes and came at a strike rate of more than 183. She was supported by Natalia Pervaiz, who remained unbeaten on 24 off 19 balls.

The pair put together an unbroken stand of 78 for the fifth wicket, lifting Pakistan to a strong total after the early setbacks. For Zimbabwe, Michelle Mavunga, Precious Marange and Lindokuhle Mabhero claimed one wicket each, though the visitors were unable to contain the scoring late in the innings.

Pakistan bowlers keep Zimbabwe in check

Zimbabwe never built sustained momentum in the chase as Pakistan’s bowlers made regular breakthroughs. Captain Fatima Sana dismissed Beloved Biza early, while Sadia Iqbal and Nashra Sandhu further tightened Pakistan’s control with disciplined bowling.

Nashra took two wickets, while Tuba Hassan, Ayesha and Natalia picked up one apiece as Zimbabwe fell to 61-7. Zimbabwe captain Nomvelo Sibanda was the top-scorer with an unbeaten 18, while Kudzai Chigora added 14 not out towards the end.

At the close of their 20 overs, Zimbabwe were 103-8, leaving Pakistan with a comfortable 67-run victory and an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series.

Series decided with one match remaining

The result means Pakistan have already secured the three-match T20I series ahead of the final game, which will also be played at the same venue in Karachi.

Pakistan had entered the second match with a 1-0 lead in the series. With Thursday’s win, the hosts ensured the contest was decided before the last fixture.

Eyman’s innings was the central contribution in Pakistan’s recovery and late acceleration, turning a modest platform into a commanding total that Zimbabwe could not challenge.
