Asad Qaiser calls for constitutional rights for Balochistan

QUETTA: Former National Assembly speaker and Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf leader Asad Qaiser on Monday said Balochistan must receive its rights under the Constitution and the law, while alleging that governments formed in the province had historically failed to reflect the genuine will of its people.

Speaking at a press conference in Quetta, Qaiser said he had come with a message of solidarity and goodwill for the people of Balochistan on behalf of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the PTI. He said the people of the province had made significant sacrifices and added that his party’s stance on the current situation in Balochistan was clear.

He alleged that non-representative administrations had repeatedly been imposed in the province and claimed that most members of the Balochistan Assembly did not truly represent the public. Qaiser said denying citizens their basic rights would deepen the crisis rather than resolve it.

Security and economy

Qaiser also voiced concern over what he described as worsening law and order in Balochistan, saying the state’s writ had weakened and roads across the province had become insecure. He claimed travellers were being killed on highways, creating fear among residents and discouraging investors from doing business in the province.

He said young people were falling into despair, while the closure of border trade routes was adding to unemployment. Qaiser called for the immediate restoration of border trade corridors, saying the move was necessary to generate jobs and reduce economic hardship.

Political criticism

Referring to PTI founder Imran Khan, Qaiser alleged that efforts were under way to impose further punishments on him and urged people to stand for justice. He warned that if public voices continued to go unheard, conditions in the province would keep worsening.

He also called for effective implementation of the National Action Plan and criticised the National Assembly, claiming that none of the legislation passed so far had benefited the public.
