PTI chairman demands immediate shifting of Imran Khan, Bushra Bibi to hospital for treatment, tests under supervision of family doctors
Expresses grave concern over ex-PM, former first lady’s health conditions
Confirms he had been informed Bushra Bibi was taken to hospital last night for eye laser treatment
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan on Thursday demanded that both former prime minister Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi be shifted to hospital “for treatment and medical tests in the presence of their family members and under the supervision of their doctors”.
He said it was time to end what he called a “see and hide approach” regarding their health issues, adding that concern was increasing and the matter required immediate attention.
“It is time to change this seek and hide approach to their health issues as concern is growing and immediate attention is required,” Barrister Gohar said in a statement, confirming that he had been informed Bushra Bibi was taken to hospital last night for eye laser treatment before being shifted back.
“I have requested a family meeting today. Awaiting that — we have grave concerns about Khan sahib and Bushra Bibi’s health,” he added.
It may be noted that the wife of the former prime minister was reportedly shifted back to Adiala Jail on Wednesday after undergoing a medical examination at the Al-Shifa Trust Eye Hospital in Rawalpindi.
Sources said she was taken to the hospital under tight security arrangements for a scheduled follow-up examination of her eye, which had previously been operated on April 17 at the same facility.
They added that periodic follow-up examinations had also been conducted inside Adiala Jail since the surgery.
Bushra Bibi had undergone eye surgery at the hospital last month after she complained of impaired vision in her right eye, prompting jail authorities to arrange an urgent examination by ophthalmology specialists.
She was moved to the healthcare facility on April 16 after doctors confirmed retinal detachment and recommended urgent surgery.
After her consent, the procedure was carried out by Dr Nadeem Qureshi along with a medical panel, sources said at the time.
Following the surgery and an overnight stay at the hospital, she was discharged and shifted back to Adiala Jail.
The former first lady is currently serving a seven-year sentence in the £190 million corruption case. In December 2025, she was also sentenced to 17 years’ imprisonment in the Toshakhana-2 case involving the under-priced purchase of luxury state gifts.
