  • Party’s CIS claims she is suffering vision impairment and being denied essential treatment

  • Says report by an eye specialist from PIMS substantiates she is being deliberately deprived of essential medical care

  • Calls for immediate transfer to a well-equipped hospital and full transparency of medical reports

  • Warns government and jail authorities will be held responsible for any harm

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Sunday expressed deep concern over reports regarding the health of Bushra Bibi, spouse of the party’s incarcerated founder Imran Khan, urging authorities to provide her with immediate medical attention and ensure transparency in her treatment.

The concern follows a document dated March 28 circulating on social media, titled “Information regarding the health condition of female convicted prisoner Bushra Bibi, wife of Imran Khan Niazi”. According to the document, Bushra Bibi had been examined by a doctor from the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), who noted that she had a “history of blurring of vision and a black spot in the right eye for the past 11 days.” She had also reportedly complained of headaches and flashes in her right eye.

In a statement, PTI Central Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram said that these reports, emanating from Adiala Jail, indicate that Bushra Bibi is experiencing vision impairment. “A report by an eye specialist from PIMS further substantiates that she is being deliberately deprived of basic human rights and essential medical care,” he alleged. “This is not mere negligence—it is a continuation of a calculated act of cruelty and political victimisation.”

Sh Akram termed the situation “condemnable,” stressing that a female prisoner, already detained under controversial circumstances, is being subjected to serious neglect regarding her health. He warned that delays in addressing a sensitive issue such as vision impairment could result in severe medical complications.

The PTI demanded that Bushra Bibi be immediately taken to a well-equipped and reputable hospital, with all her medical reports made public to ensure transparency. “If anything happens to Bushra Bibi, the incumbent government, relevant authorities, and the jail administration will be held responsible,” Akram said.

“This is not merely about an individual’s health,” he added. “It is a blot on the system. The violation of fundamental human rights under the guise of political revenge is unacceptable. Such actions not only contravene the Constitution but violate the norms of any civilised society.” He vowed that the PTI would continue raising its voice against the “blatant injustice” at every forum and take all necessary steps to ensure the matter reaches its logical conclusion.

Separately, a PTI statement said Bushra Bibi had reportedly been diagnosed with posterior vitreous detachment (PVD), along with myopia and astigmatism, describing the development as “deeply concerning.”

The issue comes amid ongoing health concerns for Imran Khan, who had earlier been reported to suffer from partial vision loss in his right eye. Doctors confirmed that, with corrective lenses, he has 6/9 partial vision in the right eye. On Monday, Imran underwent a third eye procedure at PIMS, receiving a dose of anti-VEGF intra-vitreal injection.

Imran’s family and personal doctors have reportedly requested his admission to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad, insisting that his personal physicians be granted access to him to monitor and manage his treatment.

The PTI has been actively seeking information on Bushra Bibi’s health and said it had received confirmation that she was experiencing issues with her right eye. Party officials and family members have raised concerns that the current situation reflects both medical neglect and political victimisation, highlighting the urgency of immediate intervention.
