Robbers snatch Rs2m from shopkeeper in Kasur

LAHORE: Two robbers allegedly snatched Rs2 million from a shopkeeper in the Ravi Road area on Wednesday, according to police.

The victim, identified as Sohail, is a resident of Kasur and runs a shop in the Ravi Road locality. He told police that he had placed a bag containing Rs2m on the handle of his motorcycle and was on his way near his home when two armed men riding a motorcycle stopped him.

According to Sohail, the suspects threatened him when he tried to resist and then took away the cash before fleeing.

Police said the Shafiqabad police station had registered a case against unidentified robbers over the incident.

Ravi Road is a commercial area, and incidents of street crime have risen sharply there over the past few months, causing concern among traders and residents.

Sohail also spoke to media persons after the incident and said that dacoits and other criminals were operating freely in the area. He said the suspects threatened him with dire consequences when he offered resistance, and took away the cash.

The shopkeeper further alleged that before registering the case, police questioned him about why he was carrying such a large amount of cash on a motorcycle.
