Four dead, two children injured in Shakargarh roof collapse

SHAKARGARH: Four people were killed and two children were injured when the roof of an under-construction house collapsed in Ludhar village near Shakargarh on Tuesday, Rescue 1122 officials said.

According to rescue officials, the incident took place while concrete was being poured onto the roof slab of the house. They said the structure gave way due to overloading, leaving six people trapped beneath the debris.

Rescue teams reached the site after receiving the emergency call and began an operation to retrieve those buried under the rubble. Personnel from Rescue 1122 stations in Narowal, Shakargarh and Nurkot took part in the effort.

Officials said the rescue operation continued for nearly two hours, after which all six victims were pulled out. Four of them had died at the scene, while two children were recovered alive and shifted for treatment.

The deceased were identified as 32-year-old Sadaf, 45-year-old Rafaqat, 10-year-old Hameed and six-year-old Shanzeh. Rescue officials said all four suffered serious head injuries that proved fatal.

The injured children were identified as seven-month-old Muhammad Faraz and one-and-a-half-year-old Hadia. After being given first aid at the site, both were taken to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Shakargarh.

Doctors said the condition of both injured children was stable and that they were out of danger.

Rescue operation supervised by district emergency officer

District Emergency Officer Engineer Aurangzeb also arrived at the scene and personally oversaw the rescue work, according to Rescue 1122. Officials said he remained in contact with the relevant departments to help ensure a timely response during the operation.

After the rescue effort concluded, Aurangzeb expressed sorrow over the loss of life and urged the public to follow safety precautions during construction activity.

The incident occurred at an under-construction house in Ludhar village, near Shakargarh, where family members and children were among those caught under the collapsed roof slab.

Rescue officials said the operation involved teams from multiple stations and was launched immediately after the emergency was reported. The victims were removed from the debris and the injured children were shifted to hospital for further medical care.
