FAISALABAD: A man was allegedly tortured to death by his business partners after he sought settlement of accounts in a marriage hall business, police said on Monday.
According to police, the deceased, Tariq Mehmood, was a partner in a marquee located on Canal Road. The case came to light after his wife, Nabeela, a resident of Canal Park, submitted a complaint to Madina Town police.
In her complaint, Nabeela said her husband had been facing disputes with his business partners over the distribution of profits. She alleged that whenever she asked him for household expenses, he would tell her that his partners were not dealing with him fairly and were giving him a smaller share.
As per details, Tariq was allegedly called by his partners on the pretext of resolving the financial dispute and settling the accounts. The men named in the complaint are Rana Azam, Muhammad Ejaz, Arshad Sunyara and Khurram Shah.
Police said that instead of resolving the matter, the meeting allegedly turned hostile and led to a quarrel. During the altercation, the accused, along with a security guard identified as Saleem, allegedly assaulted Tariq with rifle butts, leaving him unconscious.
According to the police account, Tariq’s condition deteriorated after the alleged attack. He was first taken to a private hospital in Gatwala. From there, he was referred to Allied Hospital for further treatment.
Police said he later succumbed to his injuries at Allied Hospital.
Complaint details
The complaint filed by Nabeela linked the alleged assault to an ongoing disagreement over profit-sharing in the marquee business. She maintained that her husband had repeatedly complained that he was being denied his due share by his partners.
Police said the accused had allegedly summoned him under the guise of settling the accounts, but the encounter ended in violence.
The individuals named in connection with the case include four business partners — Rana Azam, Muhammad Ejaz, Arshad Sunyara and Khurram Shah — as well as a security guard, Saleem, who was also alleged to have taken part in the assault.
The incident, according to police, began with a dispute over business accounts and ended with Tariq being shifted between hospitals before he died of his injuries.
Further legal proceedings were not detailed in the information shared by police on Monday.
