FAISALABAD: Police have registered a murder case against a couple on suspicion of killing a man who went missing seven months ago and have started efforts to trace the suspects, according to police.
The case was lodged on the complaint of Faheem Ashraf, a resident of Chak 229-RB, who told police that his father, Muhammad Ashraf, left home at about 2:00am on August 28 with Rs350,000 in a car for what was described as urgent work, but did not return.
He said his father’s mobile phone remained switched off and that the family was unable to find him despite carrying out extensive searches.
According to the complaint, a development in the case came on April 6 when Imran, a resident of Jaranwala, visited Faheem Ashraf’s home and shared information linked to a vehicle deal.
Faheem told police that Imran said his brother-in-law had been in contact with him regarding the sale of a car. He further said Imran told him that if Muhammad Ashraf’s father completed the biometric verification process, he would pay the money to Nadeem and take possession of the vehicle.
Police then registered a murder case against the couple on suspicion of involvement in Muhammad Ashraf’s killing.
Police had also launched a search operation to arrest the suspects.
Missing man case
The police account, as cited in the case details, links the disappearance to the circumstances in which Muhammad Ashraf left home carrying cash and a vehicle. The complainant maintained that his father had departed in the early hours of August 28 and then vanished without any further contact.
His phone, according to the complaint, stayed switched off throughout the period in which the family tried to locate him. The family’s search did not produce any result for months.
The matter took a new turn after Imran’s visit on April 6, when he allegedly informed the family about a car transaction involving his brother-in-law and referred to biometric verification and payment to Nadeem before transfer of the vehicle.
Based on these details, police moved to register the case and began looking for the couple named in connection with the suspected murder.
