Shehbaz Sharif orders plan to stabilise electricity tariffs amid power sector strain

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed authorities to prepare a comprehensive strategy aimed at stabilising electricity tariffs and reducing the financial burden on consumers.

The directive was issued during a meeting reviewing the power sector, where officials were asked to identify measures to lower electricity costs and improve system efficiency. The government is focusing on addressing structural issues affecting tariff determination.

Authorities were instructed to examine generation costs, transmission losses, and distribution inefficiencies as part of the proposed plan. The strategy is also expected to include steps to enhance recoveries and reduce circular debt pressures.
