Naqvi briefs PM Shehbaz on security situation and PSL final arrangements

ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Lahore on Saturday and briefed him on the country’s security situation, according to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).

The PMO said the interior minister informed the prime minister about the prevailing security environment in the country as well as the steps taken in response to it. The meeting also covered arrangements for the Pakistan Super League (PSL) final, which is scheduled to be held in Lahore on Sunday.

According to the PMO statement, Naqvi updated the premier on the security plan for the match. Prime Minister Shehbaz directed the interior minister to ensure the best possible arrangements for players, spectators and citizens.

The meeting took place in Lahore, where the premier was briefed on both the broader security situation and the specific measures being put in place for the high-profile sporting event.

Security review and PSL preparations

The PMO statement said the discussion focused on the country’s security conditions and the measures adopted in that regard. It also specifically addressed preparations linked to the PSL final in Lahore.

The prime minister’s instructions, as conveyed by the PMO, were aimed at ensuring comprehensive arrangements for everyone connected to the event, including the participating players, those attending the match and the general public.

The PSL final is due to take place in Lahore on Sunday, making security planning a key part of the government’s immediate focus.

Earlier meeting on security situation

The latest meeting follows an earlier interaction between the two leaders in February, when Naqvi met Prime Minister Shehbaz to review the country’s overall security environment after major suicide attacks in the federal capital.

At that time, Prime Minister Shehbaz had directed the interior minister to address the security situation in Islamabad and other related matters

in an effective and efficient manner

The PMO statement on Saturday did not provide further operational details, but said the prime minister was briefed on the current security situation and the measures taken in response to it.

The meeting underscores the government’s continued focus on security management, both in the broader national context and in relation to major public events such as the PSL final in Lahore.

In February, the review had come in the wake of major suicide attacks in Islamabad. In the latest meeting, the emphasis included security arrangements for Sunday’s final, with the prime minister directing that all possible steps be taken to facilitate safety and order for players, spectators and citizens.
