Shehbaz, Naqvi review security situation and GB polls arrangements

LAHORE: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday reviewed the country’s overall law and order and security situation during a meeting with Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, according to an official statement.

The statement said the two discussed national security and measures related to public safety in detail. Naqvi briefed the prime minister on arrangements put in place for the protection of citizens’ lives and property and for strengthening security at public places during Eidul Azha.

Naqvi also informed the premier about preparations made by security agencies for the upcoming Gilgit-Baltistan elections. He said a comprehensive security plan had been prepared to ensure peaceful, transparent and orderly polling and to maintain law and order while providing a secure environment for voters throughout the electoral process.

The prime minister appreciated the efforts of the Ministry of Interior, law enforcement agencies and security forces in maintaining peace and stability and protecting the public, the statement said. He also praised the interior minister and his team for the security arrangements for the Gilgit-Baltistan elections and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to taking all necessary steps in support of the democratic process.
