KARACHI: Cambridge International Education has confirmed that an AS Level Mathematics paper for the June 2026 exams was shared prematurely across multiple regions, including Pakistan, prompting an investigation into the breach.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the board said Cambridge International AS Level Mathematics Paper 12 (9709), conducted in Africa, Europe, the Middle East, Pakistan and South Asia, had been circulated in violation of its regulations.
The development follows earlier reports that the paper had appeared on social media hours before the exam, raising concerns among students and examination centres.
Cambridge said it is working to determine the extent of the leak and decide next steps. It added that its priority is to ensure that students are not disadvantaged and that the integrity of the examination process is maintained.
The board said candidates should continue preparing for upcoming exams, while decisions on any action will be taken by senior experts after reviewing all available evidence to ensure the reliability of grades.
It added that efforts are being made to minimise disruption and stress for students, noting that the impact of such incidents is taken seriously.
The board also said it conducts over two million exams annually across 160 countries and that breaches of exam integrity remain rare. It added that appropriate action is taken against centres and individuals where malpractice is proven.
Cambridge has asked students and schools to remain patient and said it will provide an update on the matter on May 7.

A day earlier, Cambridge International Education said it was aware of the reports and had launched a probe into the matter. In a statement, the body said it investigates such incidents thoroughly and will share further information with exam centres if required during or after the June 2026 examination series.
