Cambridge admits leak of three A-Level papers in Pakistan, vows corrective action

ISLAMABAD: Cambridge International Education (CIE) confirmed on Thursday that three A-Level and AS-Level exam papers had been partially leaked in Pakistan ahead of the June 2025 exams.

CIE, a division of Cambridge University Press and Assessment, reported that the leak involved some content from the papers being shared before the exams were scheduled.

The affected exams include the Cambridge International AS/A Level Mathematics Paper 12, where one question was disclosed prematurely; the Cambridge International AS/A Level Mathematics Paper 42, with parts of two questions shared in advance; and the Cambridge International AS/A Level Computer Science Paper 22, where a part of one question was leaked.

However, CIE clarified that there was no evidence that the entire papers had been exposed before the official exam dates.

To address the issue and maintain fairness, CIE announced that it would disregard the affected questions from the exam papers, awarding full marks for those questions to ensure no candidate is disadvantaged.

The results for all subjects will still be issued on August 12, 2025, with candidates being awarded a “fair and reliable” final grade based on the completed question paper content.

“We are taking actions for each affected syllabus to ensure the integrity and fairness of the assessments,” CIE said in its statement. “Our approach guarantees that candidates who had access to the leaked content do not gain any unfair advantage and will not achieve higher marks through cheating.”

CIE emphasized that it takes malpractice “extremely seriously” and is conducting investigations into the matter. It warned that institutions involved in the breach would face serious consequences, including deregistration, and candidates found guilty of malpractice may face disqualification from future exams.

Cambridge also reassured stakeholders that exam security remains a top priority and that thorough planning and reviews of security arrangements will continue to safeguard the integrity of future examinations.
