ISLAMABAD: Four members of a family, including a woman and a teenage boy, were shot dead in the suburbs of the federal capital, a police official said on Saturday.
According to the police official, the killings took place inside a house in the Jhangi Syedan area, which lies next to Islamabad’s Sectors I-15 and I-18. Residents of the neighbourhood heard gunfire in the morning and alerted the police, the official said.
When a police team reached the house, it found four bodies on the first floor. The police official said two of the victims were lying on separate beds, while another body was found on the floor. All four had suffered bullet wounds to the head.
The deceased were identified as Mula Khalil, his wife Shamim Bibi, their 14-year-old son Musa Khan, and Habib Majid, who police believe was Shamim Bibi’s brother.
Police moved the bodies to a hospital to complete medical-legal formalities, the official said.
Investigation under way
The motive for the killings had not been determined at the time of reporting. However, police suspected the incident may be a case of so-called honour killing, according to the official.
Preliminary findings suggested that the family was originally from Swat. The police official said Majid had rented the house a few years ago.
No further details were provided by police about the circumstances leading up to the shooting, and the investigation was continuing.
The incident adds to a series of fatal shooting cases reported from different parts of the country, though police in this case have not yet announced any arrests or a confirmed motive.
Authorities were working to establish the exact sequence of events and the reason behind the deaths after the bodies were recovered from the residence in Jhangi Syedan.
The police official’s account indicated that the case came to light only after neighbours reported hearing gunshots from the house earlier in the day. Officers then entered the premises and discovered the victims on the upper floor.
Investigators were also examining the family’s background as part of the initial inquiry. Police said early information suggested the family belonged to Swat, while the house where the killings occurred had been taken on rent by Habib Majid several years earlier.
The official did not share further information about possible suspects or the weapon used in the attack.
