A series of new polls show approval ratings for Donald Trump in the mid-30s, raising concerns for Republican candidates ahead of upcoming US midterm elections.
Surveys conducted by Reuters-Ipsos, AP-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research, and Strength in Numbers-Verasight indicate that public support has fallen to some of the lowest levels of his presidency.
The AP-NORC poll found nearly 70% of respondents describe the economy as poor, while 72% say the country is moving in the wrong direction. Approval of Trump’s handling of the economy declined to 30% from 38% in March, with 23% supporting his approach to cost of living pressures.
On immigration, approval has dropped to 40% from 50% earlier in his term, according to the Reuters-Ipsos survey. The poll also found 52% of respondents are less likely to support candidates who back deportation policies linked to his administration.
An additional survey by NBC News placed overall approval at 37%, with 63% disapproving, although support among Republican voters remains above 80%.
Foreign policy ratings have also weakened, with around 67% disapproving of his handling of tensions with Iran. Polls show a majority of respondents oppose further US military involvement.
Despite the decline, surveys indicate continued support for certain policies, including stricter voter identification and citizenship verification requirements. Analysts say economic concerns remain central to voter sentiment ahead of the elections.
