LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Friday lauded Pakistan’s diplomatic leadership for “what she described” as a [decisive role] in defusing a recent global crisis, saying the country’s efforts helped avert a potential large-scale conflict and “saved millions of lives.”

In a special message marking the International Day of Multilateralism and Diplomacy for Peace, the Punjab chief minister paid tribute to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, and Field Marshal Asim Munir, crediting their coordinated diplomatic outreach for easing tensions at a critical moment.

“Owing to Pakistan’s successful diplomacy, a potential global war was averted, saving millions of human lives,” she said, adding that Islamabad’s approach had “instilled new hope” amid an increasingly volatile international environment.

Maryam Nawaz emphasized that dialogue remains the only viable path to resolving disputes, noting that Pakistan’s principled stance on diplomacy has gained international recognition. “Diplomacy is the solution to conflicts and disputes, and it can open avenues for peace, trade and tourism worldwide,” she said.

Highlighting regional issues, she reiterated that the longstanding Kashmir dispute could also be addressed through sustained and constructive diplomatic engagement. She added that global challenges such as climate change, poverty and conflict require collective diplomatic action to yield meaningful and practical outcomes.

“Successful diplomacy in the recent global crisis has further strengthened Pakistan’s image as a responsible member of the international community,” she said, stressing that dialogue, engagement and mutual understanding remain key to resolving even the most complex global challenges.
