ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Peoples Party Vice President Sherry Rehman on Tuesday reaffirmed Pakistan’s role as a credible and trusted mediator in ongoing regional tensions, saying “sustained confidence from all sides reflects Islamabad’s growing diplomatic capital,” according to an interview with Bloomberg.
She noted that despite repeated breakdowns in dialogue and a stop-start negotiation process among key stakeholders, “their trust in Pakistan” has remained constant, underscoring Pakistan’s position in facilitating engagement between Iran and the United States.

Senator Rehman said Pakistan has effectively leveraged its diplomatic capital, strategic stability and long-standing relationships built on trust and engagement, particularly with key regional partners.
Highlighting regional linkages, she pointed to Pakistan’s strong ties with Gulf energy powers, including Saudi Arabia and Iran, noting defence cooperation with Riyadh and close geographic and economic relations with Tehran as factors enhancing its diplomatic leverage.
She said Pakistan, trusted by all sides, has helped reduce the risk of conflict and acted as a stabilising force, while stressing that the primary responsibility for de-escalation lies with the directly involved parties.
Addressing energy security concerns, Senator Rehman highlighted the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz, noting that around 80–81% of Pakistan’s energy imports — including LNG, oil, petrol and crude — pass through the route.
She urged Iran and the United States to lower tensions to prevent disruption of global energy flows, warning that even minor instability could affect international markets, raise fuel prices and create economic pressures, especially for energy-importing countries.
Reiterating Pakistan’s commitment to diplomacy, she said Islamabad will continue promoting dialogue, reducing mistrust and supporting efforts toward sustainable peace and regional stability.
