Naqvi meets Iranian, US envoys

ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi held separate meetings on Monday with the Iranian and US envoys to discuss arrangements linked to a second round of Islamabad Talks between the two sides.

In his meeting with Iranian Ambassador Reza Amiri Moghaddam, discussions focused on preparations for the expected talks. The two sides stressed the importance of finding a lasting way forward through diplomacy and negotiations in order to lower tensions in the region.

The meeting came as Pakistan continued preparations related to the proposed next phase of dialogue between the United States and Iran in Islamabad.

Meeting with Iranian envoy

During the meeting with Ambassador Moghaddam, matters connected to the arrangements for the talks were reviewed. The discussion centred on the expected second round of Islamabad Talks involving the two rival sides.

Both sides underlined that regional tensions should be addressed through diplomatic engagement and negotiated channels, with emphasis on a sustainable solution.

Meeting at US Embassy

Naqvi also met US Chargé d'Affaires to Pakistan Natalie Baker at the US Embassy on Monday. The meeting dealt with security arrangements ahead of the expected US-Iran talks in Islamabad.

The official focus of that meeting was on preparations from the security side as Islamabad readied for the anticipated diplomatic engagement. Both sides emphasised the need for a sustainable solution through diplomatic and negotiation channels to reduce regional tensions.
