Sindh to extend free Pink Scooty scheme to Hyderabad

KARACHI: The Sindh government has decided to expand its free Pink Scooty scheme to Hyderabad after what it described as the successful implementation of the initiative in Sukkur.

Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said women in Hyderabad would soon be able to benefit from the programme following its rollout in Sukkur. The initiative is aimed at improving women’s mobility and promoting greater independence across the province.

According to the minister, the scheme does not only provide free scooters to women. It also includes driving licences, helmets and formal training so that beneficiaries can commute safely.

Memon said empowering women and strengthening their confidence remained a key priority of the provincial government. He said the broader objective behind the initiative was to support women through practical measures that improve daily travel and access to opportunities.

Transport expansion beyond Sukkur and Shikarpur

The minister also said the People’s Bus Service network was being expanded beyond Sukkur and Shikarpur. He said new routes would be launched soon, including services from Khairpur to Rohri and from Khairpur to Ranipur.

Preparations are also under way to start bus operations in Hyderabad. The planned routes include Kohsar Hyder Chowk and Hyderabad to Tando Allahyar, according to Memon.

He said these transport initiatives were intended to provide the public with affordable, quality and comfortable travel facilities. The minister added that the Sindh government was giving priority to projects that directly benefit ordinary citizens.

Memon said women, young people and the working class were among the groups the government was focusing on through such programmes.

The expansion of the Pink Scooty scheme and the bus service network forms part of the Sindh government’s wider transport and public welfare efforts, as outlined by the minister in his statement.

With Hyderabad now set to be included, the programme is expected to widen access to personal mobility support for women while also complementing the province’s efforts to improve public transport links in multiple cities.
