He said Pakistan, particularly Sindh, was among the few regions where women were being provided such free electric mobility facilities.
The minister said that, in line with the vision of the PPP leadership, particularly Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, several major public welfare projects were underway, including the construction of 2.1 million houses, with ownership being transferred to women.
He said the provincial government was also making significant progress in the health sector, including provision of advanced and expensive facilities such as CyberKnife treatment free of cost, available in only a limited number of countries and hospitals worldwide. He added that more than ten autism centres had been established in Sindh, while the federal government had also sought assistance from the province in this regard.

Sharjeel Memon further said the Sindh government had invested over one billion dollars to make Thar coal utilizable, noting that coal remained one of the most economical sources of electricity generation. He added that major infrastructure projects such as Shahrah-e-Bhutto had been completed under public-private partnership and had received both national and international recognition.
He said multiple steps had been taken for women’s empowerment, including financial assistance through the Benazir Income Support Programme, transfer of property ownership to women, and the launch of the Pink Bus service. He noted that when the Pink Scooty scheme was launched, women holding driving licences were minimal, but today thousands of women were applying for licences, reflecting a positive social shift.
He clarified that the scooties were strictly for women’s use, warning that strict legal action would be taken if any man was found riding them. He added that helmet use would be mandatory for safety and that the scooties could not be sold for a period of seven years.
He said the objective of the initiative was to empower women, enhance their mobility and independence, and enable them to play a more active role in society and the economy.
At the end of the event, speakers including MPA Imdad Pitafi, MPA Saima Agha, former MPA Zahid Bhurgari, Deputy Mayor Sagheer Qureshi and Wasim Rajput also addressed the gathering, terming the initiative an important step towards socio-economic empowerment of women.
