Federal govt launches subsidy scheme for farmers with under 12 acres

ISLAMABAD: The federal government on Wednesday announced a special subsidy programme for farmers aimed at reducing the impact of the global energy crisis, according to an official announcement.

Under the scheme, farmers who own less than 12 acres of land will qualify for assistance. The official announcement said eligible farmers can sign up for three easy subsidy packages through the Pakistan Asaan Khidmat application.

To join the programme, farmers will be required to upload their personal details and other relevant information, along with documentary proof, on the application.

A senior official said the government would provide a subsidy of Rs1,500 per acre to farmers owning less than 12 acres of land. He said the amount would be transferred directly to farmers through bank accounts or mobile wallets, including JazzCash and Easypaisa.

Relief measures announced earlier this month

On April 3, the federal government had announced targeted relief measures for motorcyclists, small farmers and transporters.

Punjab has reported that more than one million farmers now possess Kissan Cards, while total wheat sowing has crossed 16 million acres. It has also been stated that farmers and goods transporters have been given digital access through Kissan Cards, digital accounts or cash vouchers.

Sindh announces separate package for small growers

Earlier this week, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah announced a Rs3 billion relief package for 366,000 small farmers to help them cope with higher diesel costs during the wheat harvesting season.

He said, “Our small growers are the backbone of the rural economy. We are committed to supporting them so they can continue their work without additional financial stress.”

He added, “Whether it is transporters, farmers, or daily commuters, our focus is to ensure that relief reaches those who need it most, without compromising fiscal discipline.”

The latest federal initiative comes as governments move to provide targeted support to groups affected by rising costs, with small farmers among those identified for direct assistance.
