PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has started verifying wheat growers under the Ehsaas Fuel Support Programme, which is intended to provide direct assistance to farmers and help lower cultivation expenses, according to a press release.
The statement said Chief Minister Sohail Afridi stated that the provincial government was extending direct relief to farmers through the programme, with the objective of reducing agricultural costs and supporting higher wheat output in the province.
According to the press release, only those farmers who cultivated wheat during the current season are eligible to receive support under the scheme. The benefit is available to farmers who own up to 12.5 acres of land.
The government has linked the programme to its wider effort to support the farming community at a time when input costs remain a key concern for growers. The verification process is being carried out to ensure that assistance reaches eligible wheat cultivators covered under the criteria laid down for the scheme.
Eligibility criteria outlined
The press release said the programme is specifically focused on farmers who have sown wheat in the ongoing season. It further clarified that landholding size is a central condition for qualification, with the upper limit fixed at 12.5 acres.
Officials said the initiative is aimed at easing the financial burden on smaller growers by directly targeting those involved in wheat cultivation. The support is also intended to contribute to improved wheat production by helping farmers manage fuel-related expenses tied to agricultural activity.
Registration figures shared
The press release said that around 1.4 million farmers have so far been registered across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The figure reflects the scale of outreach under the programme as the provincial administration moves ahead with the verification stage.
With registration already carried out on a large scale, the current process is focused on confirming eligibility in line with the conditions announced by the government. The scheme, as described in the official statement, is limited to wheat growers from the current season and to landowners falling within the specified acreage threshold.
The provincial government has presented the initiative as a direct support measure for the agriculture sector, particularly for wheat farmers, as it seeks to reduce production costs and strengthen output through targeted assistance.
